Amelia Island offers a host of outdoor recreational activities from the beach to the tidal marshes. Or you can explore the rich history of the area. We have organized the following activities for AESC members and their families/guests as group excursions. Additional registration for these events will be necessary since there are extra costs and, in some cases, limits on the number of participants. Questions? Wednesday, August 3
Kids Activities ($30 per child) -- Completely supervised group activities on the hotel property scheduled to coincide with the Spouse Book Club. Meet at the Family Breakfast at 9 a.m.
Sharks & Shells (ages 5 - 11) -- Learn about natural "beach life" looking for sharks teeth, shells and play some games on the beach.
Beach Volleyball (age 12+) -- Kick up some sand with a friendly volleyball tournament on the beach.
Cumberland Island Cruise
This private charter excursion offers an extensive and rich history of Amelia and Cumberland Island with views of wildlife along the way. We'll cruise by Fernandina's shrimp boats, historic Old Towne and Ft. Cling to the wild horses of Cumberland Island. Historians will share the colorful stories that define the character of this unique part of the world.
$40 (ages 12+); $25 (ages 5-11); Free (under age 5)

Thursday, August 4
AESC Tennis Tournament
Mix it up with Club members and family for the annual AESC Round Robin Tennis Tournament on the Ritz-Carlton courts.
$30 per player - includes balls, racquets (if you need one) and refreshments

Egans Creek Kayaking
The mild subtropical climate of Northern Florida supports an abundance of temperate salt marsh vegetation and wildlife. Rich in nutrients, these marshes feed and protect millions of ribbed mussels and fiddler crabs, among other species. Low tide brings a host of other predacious animals into the marsh such as herons, egrets, raccoons and others. Following the winding creeks through the marshes and surrounded by gently waving marsh grass, kayakers are given a real sense of solitude while paddling through almost mysterious landscape. This is an easy trip suited for all experience levels.
$70 (adults 13 and older); $55 (age 12 and under)
10 a.m. departure; 2-hour excursion. This trip is limited to 40 participants.
Friday, August 5
Lofton Creek Kayaking
This protected hardwood creek allows for a relaxing paddle any time of the day. Shaded and shielded from the winds, the creek cuts through the forest and wanders back in time. Paddlers may see turtles and alligators, as well as woodpeckers, Kingfishers and Hawks flying through the canopy. Cypress knees rising out of the tea colored waters surround the Bald Cypress trees lining the creek while a variety of flowers take turns blooming through the year.
$70 (adults 13 and older); $55 (age 12 and under)
1:30 p.m. departure; 2-hour excursion. This trip is limited to 40 participants.
Historic Trolley Tour
Take a step back in time with this scenic trolley tour along the beautiful and historic streets of Fernandina Beach and Told Town Fernandina. The tour will take you around the Historic District to view the beautiful homes and Victorian buildings while the experienced tour guide gives you a lively narrative of the local history. Points of interest include the Plaza Fort San Carlos, the Pippi Longstocking House and Ladies Street, just to name a few.
$55 per person

Saturday, August 6
AESC Golf Outing
The Golf Club of Amelia Island offers an exciting 18-hole championship golf course designed by Mark McCumber and Gene Littler. This challenging, yet fun layout is an avid golfers dream. With the breathtaking landscape, meticulously maintained greens, strategically placed bunkers and the ever-shifting ocean breeze ensures no two rounds are ever the same. Best of all, the course is located right on the Ritz-Carlton property (the pro shop is just across the driveway from the main entrance). How convenient is that!
$195 per player; includes range balls, cart and GPS on each cart (for those who get lost on the course!!!)

"Not Golf" and Mimosas/Bloody Marys (adults only)
Non-golfers will have an opportunity to replay the highly competitive Corn Hole Tournament first pioneered by Ron and Wendy Pelton at the Vail meeting. We are not sure if the Mimosas and Bloody Marys were a plus or a minus, but there are no reports of injuries... so give it a try!
$30 per person
