AESC - 63rd Annual Meeting
Now in 2021!

The Omni Homestead - Hot Springs, VA

Updated 6/7/2021

The 63rd Annual Meeting of the American Eye Study Club takes place this year at The Omni Homestead Resort -- August 1 - 6, 2021.

As you know, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the July 2020 meeting became impossible.  We were able to move the previously scheduled 2021 annual meeting at the Salishan Resort in Oregon to 2022, making way for the 63rd annual meeting in 2021.  We basically hit the "pause button" last year.

Planning is well underway... the hotel reservations system and meeting registration are now available.  With the increasing distribution of Covid vaccinations and recently updated CDC guideliens, we are optimistic about the prospects for a successful, safe and fun meeting this summer!

Spouse Book Club

We are pleased to announce that Kathy LaRosa has selected “The Silent Patient” by  Alex Michaelides for this year's Spouse Book Club selection.

The book club will meet on Monday morning on the Grand Ballroom Terrace after breakfast, starting at about 9:30 and finishing around 11 a.m.

From Amazon's review . . .  "The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides feels like it could be the big psychological thriller debut of 2019. The novel takes a few chapters to clear its throat and set the plot in motion, but once the tracks are laid it’s full steam ahead. Alicia Berenson is one-half of a glamorous couple—she’s an artist married to her fashion photographer husband, Gabriel. But when Gabriel returns home late one night, she shoots him five times in the face and refuses to speak again. Now she is being held in an institution outside London called the Grove. When a psychotherapist named Theo Faber becomes obsessed with her case, he finds his way to the Grove to treat her. Dark twists and delightful turns follow, secrets (and a diary) are revealed, and you will likely find yourself racing to the end.--Chris Schluep, the Amazon Book Review"

Airport Transportation

B&L Mountain Safe Transport

This is a family-owned business recommended by The Homestead to provide transportation between the Roanoke Airport and the resort.  The trip is about 1½  to 2 hours in length.  Once you have your flights, contact B&L with your flights and the number of individuals in your party.  They will then give you a price quote and work out other arrangements.  Be sure to provide your phone number (mobile is preferred) and an email address so they can reply.

Vehicles likely will be a 12 passenger van or mini-bus (depending on the number of travelers at a particular time).  They may group more than one party together, and it is likely it will other members of the AESC!  We strongly recommend that you make your reservations well in advance.

The basic price is $100 per person each way.  However, there will be substantial discounts for families.  Be sure to mention you are part of the American Eye Study Club group.
