Grand Hotel has always embraced its rich history, but kept up well with the times. Today, guests enjoy modern amenities while the hotel’s original architecture and charm have been tastefully preserved. Contributing greatly to the hotel’s ambiance is the relaxed atmosphere of Mackinac Island, where cars are not allowed and the horse and carriage and bicycle are favored modes of transportation.
Bear in mind that Grand Hotel is a unique property where no two rooms are exactly alike. We hope you enjoy your stay! Each guest room has been tastefully decorated by New York designer Carleton Varney in its own special character and style, complete with numerous amenities including individually controlled AC, mini bar, in-room safe, cable TV, iron and coffee maker. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and resort grounds.
Meal Plan
Grand Hotel has provided AESC meeting attendees with a special group room rate which includes a full breakfast for all members of the family. Please note that general public guests at the hotel normally have a full meal plan with room rates quoted per person. However, because the AESC has a number of group meals in the evening, we negotiated to have breakfast included in the room rate for everybody staying in the room. (Rates quoted are per room not per person.) There will be a corresponding decrease in the meeting registration fee in recognition of breakfast included in your room.
The full breakfast in the hotel's Main Dining Room may be enjoyed by all guests (up to five) in the room. There will be an area in the dining room set aside for AESC attendees. Guests rising late can enjoy an extended continental breakfast in the Geranium Bar from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Making Your Reservations
The AESC has arranged for three options in our group housing block (see details below). If you are making a "basic" reservation for the dates of the conference (up to four guests), you are welcome to book online now. On the hotel reservation webpage, put the number of guests (adults and kids) where it asks you to enter the number of "adults." Requests such particular sleeping configurations -- i.e., king bed, two queen beds, etc. -- can be entered when you get to the last stage of the reservation. If you are arriving before Tuesday, July 28 or staying after Sunday, August 2, go ahead and book your room and then contact Kathy Paul with your confirmation number so she can get the additional days added to your reservation.
NOTE: If you have any special requests, such as a king bed or adding a roll-away to your room, that can be added when you get to the "confirm reservation" page when booking online. If you do enter a request, please email Kathy ([email protected]) so she can follow-up with the hotel group housing staff.
For other circumstances such as extending your stay (before or after the meeting), more than four guests in your party, adjoining rooms or anything else "out of the ordinary," please submit aSPECIAL REQUEST FORMto Kathy Paul. She will handle your reservation directly with the group housing staff.

Deposit and Cancellation -- Deposit of first night stay is required at time of reservation, refundable minus $45 if cancelled 11 days prior to arrival date. Not refundable if cancelled 10 days or less prior to arrival date. We have been assured by the hotel that only the first night deposit will be charged by the online reservation system.
Reservation Deadline -- Our room block will be held until Friday, June 26, 2015. After that date, all rooms in the block will revert back to Grand Hotel for general sale. Rooms after this cut-off date may be reserved subject to availability.
Room Types
Category I -- smaller island-view rooms: Rate - $425.90 per night per room
Category II -- larger island-view and smaller lake view rooms: $554.96 per night per room
Category III -- deluxe lake view guest rooms, some with balcony: $735.64 per night per room
Rates quoted above include breakfast for everybody staying in the room, plus all taxes and hotel fees.
Room rates include breakfast daily, but not lunch or dinner
Tipping within Grand Hotel is neither expected nor permitted. However, a 19.5% resort charge is applied to the room rate (and is included in the rates quoted above).
Michigan's 6% sales tax and a 2% Mackinac Island assessment also apply to the room rate (also included in the prices listed above)
The price quoted on the online reservation system includes all of these added charges
A one-time charge of $8 per person round-trip baggage transfer from the docks to the hotel and return will be added to your bill.
